Meet Binnie

Binnie A. Dansby

Founder of SOURCE Process and Breathwork

A pioneer of modern breathwork and conscious birth

Binnie A Dansby is an international teacher, therapist, philosopher, and author whose work has shaped the development of breathwork, conscious birthing, and early imprint awareness in the modern Western world for over four decades. She is the founder of SOURCE Process and Breathwork, a holistic system grounded in the understanding that human beings are conscious, responsive, and learning from conception onward.

Early breathwork lineage and the birth of a field

Binnie was part of the first generation of practitioners exploring breathwork as a path of transformation in the 1970s, working alongside Leonard Orr, the originator of conscious connected breathwork (rebirthing). At a time when breathwork was emerging as a radical experiential approach to healing, Binnie helped pioneer its evolution beyond catharsis into deeper inquiry around birth, safety, and integration.

In 1977, inspired by her own exploration of birth and early imprinting, Binnie left a career in design to dedicate herself fully to therapeutic breathwork. By 1980, her work shifted decisively toward pregnancy, birth, and the first year of life as the foundation of systemic patterns shaping individuals and culture. This direction was profoundly influenced by her participation in and support of the first water birth in the United States in October 1980.

Where human potential meets the intelligence of birth

Binnie’s work lives at the meeting point of the human potential movement and deep inquiry into prenatal and perinatal experience. She has supported hundreds of births and worked extensively with adults integrating remembered and embodied experiences from conception, pregnancy, and birth in both individual and group settings.

Her pioneering work in water birth and conscious birthing practices brought international recognition, including media appearances such as The Phil Donahue Show, and invitations to speak to midwives, health professionals, and therapists across Europe and North America.

The creation of SOURCE

Out of decades of inquiry into what it means to be a conscious human being, Binnie created SOURCE Process and Breathwork. SOURCE is a whole-person system that integrates breath, embodiment, inquiry, and presence to support the safe and effective healing of early imprints from what Binnie calls “the primal time” – from conception through early childhood.

SOURCE supports nervous-system regulation, inner authority, creativity, and integration rather than cathartic release alone. It honours each individual as a unique expression of life, while also supporting a lived experience of belonging to a greater unified whole.

A diverse and international body of work

Binnie’s trainings and workshops have attracted people from across disciplines and walks of life, including engineers, architects, business leaders, doctors, midwives, nurses, designers, parents, educators, artists, consultants, psychotherapists, and breathwork professionals. Her work speaks across professions because it addresses something fundamentally human.

SOURCE trainings have been conducted internationally since the late 1980s, including long-running programs in Germany, England, Denmark, Estonia, and other countries. Several hundred students have completed multi-year SOURCE trainings, with the lineage now carried forward by senior graduates who organise and lead programs in different regions, while Binnie continues as teacher, mentor, and advisor.

Professional leadership and ongoing teaching

Binnie is a founding board member of the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance (GPBA), contributing to the establishment of ethical and professional standards within the global breathwork community. She has been a keynote speaker and invited teacher at numerous international conferences and gatherings related to birth, breathwork, psychology, and consciousness.

Today, Binnie lives in Glastonbury, UK, and continues to travel internationally to offer live seminars, retreats, and advanced trainings, supporting the ongoing evolution of SOURCE Process and Breathwork as a living lineage.
